Central China's Wuhan hosts world-class kite event

⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠In central China's Wuhan, the Mulan Grassland is once again taking center stage as it hosts a world-class kite event. The 2026 China-Wuhan Mulan International Kite Invitational and National Sport Kite Championships began on Saturday.

With the Mid-Autumn Festival and China's National Day holidays approaching, the event blends sports, culture and tradition into a vibrant celebration.   The sky above the Mulan Grassland is alive with kites today, as more than 20 international flyers from 12 countries and regions join 120 Chinese athletes in competition.

Teams from around the world put on synchronized routines with four-line sport kites, twisting, diving and sweeping through the air in perfect rhythm.

"We are the Kite Couple. We travel around the world to kite festivals. We are very very happy to be here in Wuhan, because of its wonderful grass field, the wonderful organization. It couldn't be better, and we love China. I've been here so many times, and I love coming back here. And I feel like home when I'm here. We're very honored to be able to support the Chinese kite culture. That's very important," said a duo dubbed as Kite Couple.

The event is more than a sporting contest, blending kite culture, local traditions and the festive spirit of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays.

In the coming weeks, visitors can also explore flower fields, enjoy camping and take part in live performances at the Mulan Grassland, showcasing Wuhan as a dynamic destination for international sports and cultural exchange.

The Alashankou railway port, also known as Alataw Pass, a major railway port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, handled 14.244 million tons of freight in the first eight months of this year, up 13 percent year on year, the latest data showed.

The figures reflect the continued improvement in the westward logistics corridor's capacity to ensure smooth and unimpeded trade flows.

To date, 129 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train routes pass through the Alashankou railway port, reaching 21 countries including Germany and Poland.

The variety of goods transported has expanded to more than 200 categories, including mechanical and electrical equipment, new energy products, auto parts, and daily necessities, with the two-way cargo flow structure continuing to improve.
