Chinese shares close higher Monday

Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.97 percent to 3,949.91 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.65 percent higher at 13,730.02 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 2.03 trillion yuan (about 300.8 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.08 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Medical services, cellular immunotherapy and recombinant protein stocks were among the top gainers, while precious metals and photolithography equipment shares led the declines.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.8 percent to close at 3,399.59 points Monday.

The ChiNext Index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and other indices, reflects the performance of stocks listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

Hong Kong's stock market ended higher Monday with the benchmark Hang Seng Index up 1.18 percent to close at 25,042.71 points.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 1.39 percent to end at 8,339.63 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index increased by 0.40 percent to end at 4,423.29 points.
