Shanghai Futures Exchange steel contracts closed lower on Monday.
The most-active rebar futures for January 2027 finished the day session at 3,106.00 yuan (about 462.67 U.S. dollars) per tonne, down 0.16 percent from the previous settlement.
The hot-rolled coil futures for January 2027 settled at 3,282.00 yuan (about 488.88 U.S. dollars) per tonne, down 0.33 percent.
Rebar is mainly used in construction for buildings, bridges and infrastructure. Hot-rolled coil is a flat steel product widely used across the manufacturing sector, including in automobiles, home appliances, machinery and pipes.
Both contracts are among the most actively traded steel futures in the world and serve as key price references for the Chinese and global steel markets.

China will work with all relevant parties to participate in the selection of the next United Nations secretary-general in a responsible manner, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.
"The selection of the UN Secretary-General bears on the reform and development of the United Nations and the vital interests of member states. China supports selecting a new Secretary-General who abides by the UN Charter and is highly capable, fair and upright, and fully committed to their duties, in accordance with the provisions of the UN Charter. China will work with all relevant parties and take part in the secretary-general selection process in a responsible manner," said Guo.
Current UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' term of office expires at the end of this year, and the next secretary-general will take over the role on Jan. 1, 2027.
