China is willing to work with the international community to jointly advance the Global Development Initiative (GDI) with greater depth, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory letter to a high-level dialogue marking the fifth anniversary of the GDI held at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday.
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng attended the event and delivered a speech.
At a press briefing in Beijing, Guo highlighted GDI's achievements and China's contributions to implementing the Initiative.
"On September 25, the high-level dialogue on the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) was successfully held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. More than 300 guests attended the event, including leaders and ministerial officials from member states of the Group of Friends of GDI, as well as heads of international organizations. In his congratulatory message to the dialogue, President Xi Jinping said that the GDI was put forward to promote international development cooperation, reinvigorate global development, and help accelerate the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With the concerted efforts of all parties, cooperation projects under the initiative have taken root and borne fruit in more than 120 countries over the past five years. China stands ready to work with all parties to uphold a people-centered philosophy of development and jointly advance the GDI toward deeper and more substantive implementation," said Guo.
"Over the past five years, the GDI has delivered extensive practical results and notable achievements, demonstrating China's longstanding commitment to advancing human progress and enhancing world harmony, as well as providing China's insight and contribution to promoting common development among all countries. China is ready to work with all parties to transform the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals into concrete improvements that people can see and experience, and to help build a community with a shared future for humanity," he noted.
