U.S. dollar ticks down

The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.17 percent to 101.933 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1252 dollars from 1.1235 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3239 dollars from 1.3190 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.80 Japanese yen, lower than 158.11 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.8287 Swiss francs from 0.8317 Swiss francs, and it added to 1.4259 Canadian dollars from 1.4236 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar lost to 10.0366 Swedish kronor from 10.0597 Swedish kronor.

European stock markets closed higher on Friday, buoyed by falling oil prices, weaker-than-expected U.S. employment data and a notable decline in German 10-year government bond yields.

The United Kingdom's FTSE 100 index rose 0.32 percent to close at 10,461.95 points. France's CAC 40 index gained 0.79 percent to finish at 7,897.19 points. Germany's DAX index increased 1.17 percent to end the session at 25,231.20 points.
