China created a total of 10.52 million new urban jobs in the first nine months of 2026, achieving nearly 88 percent of its annual target, official data showed on Saturday.
At a press conference in Beijing, Li Zhong, vice minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security briefed reporters about employment and social security data for the first three quarters of this year.
"From January to September this year, 10.52 million new urban jobs were created, achieving 87.7 percent of the annual target. The average surveyed urban unemployment rate stood at 5.2 percent in the first eight months, reflecting an overall stable employment situation. By the end of September, the number of people covered by basic old-age insurance, unemployment insurance, and work-related injury insurance had reached 1.079 billion, 251 million, and 327 million, respectively, with the accumulated balance of the three social insurance funds totaling 11.2 trillion yuan (about 1.67 trillion U.S. dollars)," said the official.
