China's first batch of five national parks has delivered substantial results in ecosystem and biodiversity protection since their official establishment in 2021, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration on Monday.

The parks, namely the Sanjiangyuan National Park in west China, the Giant Panda National Park in southwest-northwest China, the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park in northeast China, the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park in south China, and the Wuyi Mountains National Park in east China, cover a combined protected area of 230,000 square kilometers.

The five parks encompass representative ecosystems including headwaters, alpine forests, and temperate broadleaf and mixed forests, enabling large-scale, integrated protection and restoration of vital ecological spaces.

Over the past five years, flagship species protection in the five parks has been notably effective, and the quality of natural ecosystems in key areas has remained at a high level.

Assessments show that 75 percent of the ecological benefit indicators for the first batch of national parks were rated as excellent.
