CCIDA sponsors set up of Hong Kong Pavilion at Frankfurt Book Fair to showcase Hong Kong's creative excellence

The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau sponsored the publishing and printing industries to set up the Hong Kong Pavilion at the Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF), the world's largest trade fair for book rights and content, which was held from October 7 to 11 (Frankfurt time). During the five-day exhibition period, the Hong Kong Pavilion attracted over 90 000 visitors from around the world, showcasing Hong Kong's creative excellence to the international community and serving as a platform for the industries to expand into overseas markets.

This year's Hong Kong Pavilion carried the theme "Hong Kong: Our Narrative" and the sub-theme "Cosmic Chapters: Reading the Future", featuring more than 1 000 pieces of publications and printed works from over 70 Hong Kong publishers and printers.

Highly popular among visitors was the exhibition staged at the "Creative Corner" thematic zone at which visitors were led to reflect on the meaning of space exploration through a curated selection of relevant publications and printed works. The inspiration came from Dr Lai Ka-ying, Hong Kong's first payload expert who participated in the successful Shenzhou-23 manned spaceflight mission. The exhibits at the Pavilion presented the key achievements in aerospace development and offered visitors a multifaceted exploration of the spirit of discovery through the lenses of publishing, technology, and the humanities.

During the exhibition, the Hong Kong Pavilion also organised sharing sessions and networking activities, bringing together the Hong Kong and international industry representatives to exchange experience and insights. The events fostered connections and collaboration opportunities within the industries, while further promoting Hong Kong's creative content and cultural brands.

The Hong Kong Pavilion at the FBF is one of the stops of the CCIDA-sponsored "Soaring Creativity – Hong Kong Pavilion" project. Since the project's inception in 2011, the project showcased a total of more than 54 000 outstanding Hong Kong exhibits to over seven million visitors from around the world to propel the local publishing and printing industries to go global.

CFS finds excessive Bacillus cereus in sample of preserved bean curd

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (October 12) announced that a sample of bottled preserved bean curd was found to contain an excessive amount of Bacillus cereus.

Details of the batch of the product are as follows:

Product name: — (No product name in English)

Net weight: 340.5 grams

Sales period of the affected batch: September 24 to October 9, 2026

Place of origin: China

A spokesman for the CFS said, "The CFS collected the above-mentioned sample from a retailer in Shum Shui Po for testing under its routine Food Surveillance Programme. The test result showed that the sample contained Bacillus cereus at a level of 140 000 per gram. According to the Microbiological Guidelines for Food, if ready-to-eat food contains Bacillus cereus at a level of more than 100 000 per gram, it is considered unsatisfactory. Members of the public should stop consume the affected batch of product."

The spokesman said that the CFS has informed the retailer concerned of the issue, and instructed it to stop sale, remove from shelves and recall the affected batch of the product.

A preliminary investigation by the CFS has found that the affected batch of the product comprises only 48 bottles, 26 of which were sold at the retailer between September 24 and October 9. The retailer has voluntarily surrendered the remaining products from the same batch to the CFS for disposal. Members of the public may call its hotline at 4621 7383 for enquiries regarding the recall of the batch of the product concerned.

"Bacillus cereus is commonly found in the environment. Unhygienic conditions in food processing and storage may give rise to its growth. Consuming food contaminated with excessive Bacillus cereus or its heat-stable toxins may cause gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting and diarrhoea," the spokesman said.

The CFS will continue to follow up the incident and take appropriate action. The investigation is ongoing.
