The European Union's External Action Service (EEAS) issued a statement Sunday, strongly condemning recent violent attacks by Jewish settlers in the West Bank, including an assault targeting European diplomats.

The statement urged Israel to hold the attackers accountable, take effective measures to stop violence and harassment against Palestinians, and halt the expansion of settlements.

On Saturday local time, a convoy carrying several European diplomats was attacked by Jewish settlers near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

France and Belgium said the same day that those attacked included a French mayor as well as Belgian and Polish diplomatic personnel.
