Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that both Iran and Russia maintain that there are no military solutions to the current regional issues and these issues must be solved through diplomatic and political channels.

Araghchi made the remarks at a joint press conference with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after their meeting in Tehran.

"We know that this insecure situation is a direct consequence of the military aggression launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. The war and economic blockade launched by the United States and Israel are the main reasons for the insecurity in our region," he said.

Araghchi said Iran and Russia are in full agreement in their opposition to the U.S. "belligerent unilateralism," and will cooperate at the international level to strengthen multilateralism and safeguard the international law.

Lavrov, for his part, described his meeting with Araghchi as "fruitful, transparent and frank," saying "We are witnessing rapid and sustainable growth in bilateral trade."

The Russian foreign minister said that Russian technical specialists and experts are gradually returning to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant project in southern Iran, and there are broad prospects of cooperation between the two sides regarding the extraction and transit of hydrocarbons.

Noting that it is the European Union and the United States, not Russia, that are undermining global energy stability, Lavrov said Russia does not want to see fluctuations in energy market prices and advocates price stability.

Lavrov arrived in Tehran earlier on Monday. Iran and Russia, both under U.S. sanctions, have in recent years expanded their political and economic relations to counter U.S. restrictions.
