China on Wednesday launched a CERES-1 Y8 carrier rocket from waters off the coast of Rizhao City in east China's Shandong Province, successfully placing a remote-sensing satellite into planned orbit.

The commercial rocket blasted off at 11:39 (Beijing Time) from the launch site, carrying the Xiguang-4 01 satellite.

The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center carried out this offshore launch, which marked the 24th flight mission of the CERES-1 rocket series.

China's carbon market development is entering a period of fast growth, marked by multiple achievements in regulating carbon emissions, according to Li Gao, vice minister of ecology and environment, on Wednesday.

He made the remarks at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office in Beijing.

"The national carbon emissions trading market has been running for over five years. So far, China has established the world's largest carbon emissions trading market, currently covering around 8.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions, or more than 65 percent of the country's total. Just last week, the cumulative trading volume of China's national carbon emissions trading market exceeded one billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent," said Li.

"Next, we will continue to expand the industry coverage, bringing sectors such as petrochemicals and chemicals into the fold by 2027. We will further refine the quota management system, and allocate and implement in a scientific and equitable manner the target of reducing carbon emissions per unit of product by about three percent for the industries covered by the carbon emissions trading market," he said.
