China's non-bank sectors recorded net cross-border capital inflows of of 40.7 billion U.S. dollars in September, down 35 percent from August, according to the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE).

The growth was primarily driven by trade in goods, which continued to generate substantial inflows, data from SAFE showed.

Meanwhile, cross-border receipts and payments rose 9 percent month on month, as foreign exchange settlement and sales increased 17 percent, according to the regulator.

Banks settled 294.2 billion dollars in foreign exchange and sold 238 billion dollars in September. In the first nine months, settlement totaled nearly 2.38 trillion dollars, against sales of 1.98 trillion dollars, SAFE data showed.

In September 2026, the amount of cross-border receipts and payments by non-banking sectors was 833.9 billion U.S. dollars and 793.2 billion U.S. dollars, respectively, according to SAFE.

The administration said that since September, central banks in Europe, the United States and Japan have successively raised interest rates, leading to significant volatility in the foreign exchange and bond markets of some economies and international financial markets have continued to experience turbulence and adjustments. But China's foreign exchange market has remained generally stable.
