China-Europe freight train trips exceed 140,000

China-Europe freight trains have run more than 140,000 trips and transported goods worth more than 560 billion U.S. dollars, the latest official data showed on Thursday.

This milestone was reached as the X8059 train, the 140,000th China-Europe freight train, departed from the Puhe Logistics Base in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province, bound for Moscow.

The X8059 train, carrying goods such as home appliances and auto parts, headed north after departing and exited through the Manzhouli land port in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and is expected to reach Moscow in about nine days.

This was also the 280th China-Europe freight train dispatched from the China-Europe Freight Train (Shenyang) Assembly Center this year.

"As the only national-level China-Europe freight train assembly center in northeast China, the Shenyang assembly center has operated more than 2,400 China-Europe freight trains trips in both directions and transported over 250,000 TEUs of goods, serving more than 2,000 domestic and foreign enterprises since it was put into operation in 2023," said Nan Ning, manager of the Shenyang International Port Business Department under China Railway Shenyang Group Co., Ltd.

China has built 14 China-Europe freight train assembly centers so far, including the one in Shenyang.

Routes along the three major corridors for China-Europe freight trains -- the western, central and eastern -- have been dynamically optimized. China now operates 96 scheduled China-Europe freight train routes at 120 kilometers per hour within China. These routes connect 132 domestic cities and reach 237 cities in 26 European countries and over 100 cities in 12 Asian countries, with services covering nearly all of Eurasia.

Since the beginning of this year, China has worked closely with countries along the routes to continuously improve the operational efficiency of China-Europe freight trains. In May, monthly volume hit a record high.

The six major border ports handled an average of 51.2 trains per day, up 12.8 percent year on year, and cut the shortest customs clearance time at these ports to under 30 minutes.

Services on the southern corridor have been running regularly, with 746 trains operated from January to September, up 125 percent year on year.

Twenty-two scheduled China-Europe freight trains now run each week between nine Chinese cities and six European cities, precisely matching the cross-border transport needs of high-end manufacturing.

More than 100 international freight trains have departed from Beijing. Intelligent products made in Beijing, including integrated circuits, medical devices, and smart manufacturing equipment, now account for over 90 percent of the total, up from 30 percent in the early stage, providing a stable cross-border logistics option for exporting high-value-added foreign trade products from the capital.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said it will continue to strengthen the branding of China-Europe freight trains, steadily raise their level of internationalization and marketization, consolidate and enhance the resilience of their development, and promote their development toward higher quality, better efficiency and greater safety.
