A barrage of Saudi airstrikes hit targets across Yemen on Saturday, killing four members of a single family in western Sanaa and leaving dozens more casualties nationwide as the conflict enters its fourth month.
Local residents and surviving family members described utter devastation as missiles struck a neighborhood they said contained no military targets.
"We were taken by surprise today. We were out, at work, when we were shocked by the Saudi airstrike on our family, our neighbors, and my uncle's house, which was located on 50th Street. There were no military sites or anything like that there," said Asim Al-Dhafiri, a survivor of the strike.
"We are civilians, safe in our homes. We are sitting here, displaced, asking God to provide for us. We do not belong to either side, yet our homes were bombed. What have we done wrong?" said Mamdouh Saleh, another survivor.
Saturday's airstrikes from Saudi Arabia reportedly struck several areas across Yemen, including Sanaa governorate, Hudaydah and Saada. The coastal city of Mokha was hit more than 20 times.
Located on the Red Sea near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, Mokha lies close to a key route for international shipping and trade.
Health authority in Sanaa said dozens of people were killed or injured. Houthis said Saudi Arabia carried out more than 100 airstrikes and missile attacks within 24 hours.
"Yesterday, Saudi Arabia's attacks on civilian sites left more than 50 people killed or injured. This indicates that women and children are being targeted. The escalation has brought the cumulative toll of those killed and injured to 661," said Anis al-Asbahi, spokesperson, health authority in Sanaa.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the group had carried out seven operations targeting four Saudi airports, Aramco oil facilities, the Rabigh refinery and an oil pipeline linking eastern and western Saudi Arabia.
He said the attacks involved ballistic missiles and drones and were launched in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes.
Saudi Arabia said Houthis' attacks on its territory, including strikes on civilian targets and key infrastructure, threaten the safety of its people, its infrastructure and international shipping.
Saudi Arabia maintains that it has the right to defend its territory.
