As preparations enter the final sprint for the upcoming 9th China International Import Expo in Shanghai, the global trade event is set to introduce a dedicated "global national brands" exhibition zone for the first time ever across its consumer goods as well as food and agricultural exhibition areas.
The upcoming event, scheduled for November 5 to 10, has drawn broad international participation, bringing together 162 countries, regions, and international organizations alongside more than 4,100 overseas firms. For the enterprise sector, the total exhibition area has surpassed 370,000 square meters.
As hall setup was already underway, trucks carrying the first batch of exhibits arrived at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) on Monday.
Among the early arrivals were organic bananas from Peru, which saw significantly reduced transit times thanks to the opening of the direct shipping route between Peru's Chancay Port and Shanghai.
Opened in late 2024, the "Chancay-Shanghai" shipping route cut sea transit time between China and Peru from 35 to 40 days to about 20 days, reducing logistics costs by more than 20 percent.
"Since the shipping route opened, it takes as fast as 22 days to reach China. For fruit enterprises and high-quality produce, this offers huge benefits in terms of freshness preservation and cold-chain logistics," said Zeng Xiaoqing, an exhibitor.
Among the first food and agricultural products entering the venue are coconuts from Thailand, which are also set to make their global debut with a fresh new look at the expo.
Launched in 2018 as the world's first national-level expo dedicated to imports, the CIIE was designed to expand China's opening-up and turn its vast market into a shared opportunity for the world.
