Computing power and energy storage products are emerging as new engines of China's foreign trade, drawing strong interest from overseas buyers at the ongoing 140th China Import and Export Fair, better known as the Canton Fair, in Guangzhou.
Running in three phases from Oct 15 to Nov 4 in the provincial capital of south China's Guangdong, the fair has attracted global buyers who arrived with long procurement lists for such Chinese products and a keen interest in closer collaboration with Chinese companies in related sectors.
An Indian buyer at the fair said he was seeking deeper partnerships with Chinese suppliers.
"We are in collaboration with some of the suppliers to have exclusive design for our country and do the partnership," he said.
A Romanian buyer highlighted the appeal of end-to-end solutions he has found at the fair.
"I am happy to find that here we can find the full solution for the AI data center. We can find the UPS and the power module -- the full solution for the data center," the buyer said.
That shift from products to capabilities is showing up beyond the Canton Fair floor. Official data show China's information transmission, software and IT services sector expanded 10.4 percent in the first three quarters over the same period of last year, well above the overall economic growth rate. Chinese AI token services are expanding rapidly overseas, backed by green energy and large-scale computing power, and are helping reshape global intelligent services.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Oct 19 that the AI boom is now an engine powering China's manufacturing, pointing to global demand for the chips and equipment needed to build data centers and expand computing power.
Liu Chun, head of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, said China's complete industrial system can continuously meet large-scale procurement demand from the global market while also responding to the personalized needs of different countries and customers.
"Nowadays, more and more Chinese companies are involved in the design, construction and operation of overseas data centers, communication networks and new energy power stations. They are moving from delivering products to delivering capabilities," she said.
Held twice a year, the Canton Fair has long been regarded as a barometer of China's foreign trade and has grown over the past seven decades into the country's largest and longest-running international trade event. The 140th edition has drawn buyers from more than 220 other countries and regions.
