The 2026 U.N. China Youth Environment Forum was held in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Wednesday, highlighting the country's progress in ecological civilization through a series of events.

The forum brought together around 200 participants, including youth delegates from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as global environmental educators and students, and leading figures in polar scientific research in the HKSAR.

Through keynote speeches, experience-sharing sessions and outcome presentations, the event showcased advances in water ecological protection, promotion of environmental protection through aesthetic education across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area city cluster in south China, education and practice of ecological civilization in local regions, etc.

The event was jointly organized by the United Nations Environment Program's (UNEP's) Chinese Office and the Center for Environmental Education and Communications of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, with co-hosting support from the Environment and Ecology Bureau of HKSAR government and an overseas friendship association in Shenzhen.

Founded in 2016, the U.N. China Youth Environment Forum is an annual event organized by the UNEP, with the aim of providing China's youth with a platform to exchange environmental protection practices and mobilize more young people to care for nature.

People from China's Taiwan region face no obstacles in international travel, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday, in response to a media query about an alleged announcement by Pakistan to close its airspace to carriers from Taiwan in adherence to the one-China principle.

"The one-China principle is a broad consensus of the international community. According to our knowledge, people from the Taiwan region face no obstacles in international travel," said Guo Jiakun, the spokesman, at a press conference in Beijing.
