Giant panda cubs were recorded standing upright to reach for food in hanging baskets at a breeding base in Chengdu City of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
The footages, captured at the Moonlight Delivery House and Star Giant Panda Nursery House at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, show that the cubs stand on their hind legs and reach out with their front paws to touch the suspended bamboo baskets.
By hanging the food baskets high, keepers encourage the young pandas to stand and forage. This form of food enrichment makes feeding more challenging and helps promote the animals' natural behaviors.
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a world-renowned institution dedicated to the ex-situ conservation, scientific breeding, public education, and educational tourism of giant pandas. As a model project for panda conservation, it is known for protecting and breeding endangered species unique to China, including giant pandas and red pandas.
