The 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held its fifth plenary session from Monday to Thursday in Beijing, adopting a resolution on persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance.

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee presided over the meeting. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered an important address, said a communique issued after the session.

At the session, participants heard and discussed a report on the work of the Political Bureau presented by Xi.

They also considered and adopted the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Certain Major Issues concerning Persevering with Full and Rigorous Party Self-Governance. Xi delivered explanatory remarks on the draft of the resolution.

The CPC Central Committee fully affirmed the work of the Political Bureau since the committee's fourth plenary session, the communique said.

Looking back on the Party's journey since its founding, the CPC Central Committee pointed out that the key to the success of the CPC in winning one victory after another lies in its pursuit of the high ideal of communism, its dedication to achieving lasting greatness for the Chinese nation, and its commitment to seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation.

At the session, the CPC Central Committee gave a highly positive assessment of the great achievements the Party has made in exercising full and rigorous self-governance in the new era.

It was pointed out that as the Party endeavors to supervise, govern, develop, and strengthen itself in the new era, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has put forward a series of new ideas, new thinking, and new strategies in response to the major questions of the times -- what kind of long-term governing Marxist party the CPC should build and how to build it, thereby giving rise to Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building.

"It was stressed that many favorable conditions are now in place for advancing full and rigorous Party self-governance, while we also face many new circumstances and new issues in this endeavor," the communique said.

Profound changes in global, national, and Party conditions have made the CPC's tasks of uniting and leading the people in safeguarding China's sovereignty, security, and development interests, of uniting and leading the people in promoting reform and development and maintaining social harmony and stability, and of maintaining its advanced nature and integrity even more formidable, it added.

"Dedicated to fulfilling the Party's missions and tasks, we must act in line with the overall requirements for Party building in the new era, take the Party Constitution as our fundamental guide, maintain the Party's vanguard nature, and uphold the overall leadership of the Party and the centralized, unified leadership of the Party Central Committee," the communique said.

At the session, the guiding principles for persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance were highlighted as follows: serving the Party's missions and tasks; taking strengthening the Party politically as the overarching principle; exercising rigorous governance across the board; adopting a problem-oriented approach; upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground; adhering to a top-down approach; and running the Party according to regulations.

Systematic plans for persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance were also made at the session, according to the communique.

Strengthening the Party spirit represents a fundamental task in the CPC's efforts to ensure full and rigorous Party self-governance, it said.

Democratic centralism is the Party's fundamental organizational principle and leadership system, and its implementation is therefore an inherent requirement for exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance, the communique added.

Strict management of officials is the key to full and rigorous Party self-governance, it noted.

"We will build up the ranks of high-caliber officials with firm political commitment, outstanding professional competence, excellent work conduct, and strict discipline," it added.

Party organizations at all levels play the principal role in exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance, said the communique, adding that it is therefore essential to systematically advance the development of Party organizations at all levels and in all sectors to strengthen their political and organizational functions.

Improving conduct and tightening discipline are effective measures to advance full and rigorous Party self-governance, said the communique.

"It was noted that taking integrated steps to ensure that officials do not have the audacity, opportunity, or desire to commit corruption is both an important strategy for full and rigorous Party self-governance and a fundamental guideline for our fight against corruption," the communique said.

"We must take systematic steps to address both symptoms and root causes of corruption and adopt a holistic approach that combines severe punishment, targeted remedy, and effective prevention, carrying this fight through to the end," it stated.

Strengthening Party regulations and institutions represents a long-term, fundamental strategy for ensuring full and rigorous Party self-governance, said the communique.

Persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance entails further improvement to Party and state oversight systems, said the communique, adding that it is the common political responsibility of all Party members.

Studying and implementing the guiding principles from this plenary session represent a major political task for the entire Party both at present and in the period to come, according to the communique.

It was also stressed that all aspects of the Party's work agenda should be steadily advanced at the turn of the year.

The commercialization of the robot industry has given rise to new forms of business in South China's tech hub of Shenzhen, where stores are allowing customers to rent robot models and fully customize the bots they buy.

At the AI Services Street in Shenzhen's Longgang District, the first of its kind in China, crowds have been forming daily since the street opened in early September. Visitors come to view exhibitions and try robot services, and many of them leave with orders.

Robot rental is among the hottest businesses. At the Shenzhen Robot 6S Store, dozens of robots are available for rent, from robot dogs and guide bots to humanoid machines that can dance and greet guests.

The cheapest option is a robot dog, which renters can take home for just 1,000 yuan (about 150 U.S. dollars).

"In our rental business, we have more than 100 types of humanoid and special-purpose robots. Special-purpose robots mainly cover cleaning categories such as smart cleaning, as well as smart healthcare and smart elderly care. We offer customized solutions across different categories," said the manager of the Shenzhen Robot 6S Store.

A buyer from the manufacturing sector, surnamed Liu, said many robots in the store match his production line needs. He has identified several promising models and plans to study which could be used at his company.

"Transport robots, cleaning robots -- and since our company uses photovoltaic panels, I also noticed photovoltaic panel cleaning robots here. I think these three types would fit our company well," he said.

At a robot components supermarket along the AI Services Street, core parts including reducers, servo motors, controllers and sensors are displayed on shelves like everyday goods. For companies, components that once took months to source can now all be found on the street.

The supermarket has a dedicated showroom for robot components. Zhou Ying, a staff member at the showroom, said the exhibits are highly diverse, visitor traffic is high, and the showroom receives guests frequently.

"The showroom now houses components from more than 60 suppliers, including chips, sensors, casings and structural parts. Since last year, we have hosted nearly 500 events," she said.

Consumers can also customize robots on the street. Some customers bring a design drawing and receive hardware parts made to order.

"A customer gives us a blueprint of a robot, and we manufacture the hardware components accordingly. This year, our order volume has grown about fivefold compared with 2025. Customizing a robot used to take at least six to eight months from research and development to prototype; now some micro-customized products can be ready in three to four months," said Mao Fangping, senior business development manager at a Guangdong-based smart manufacturing company.
