China's logistics sector saw continued expansion in business activities in October, according to the latest data released by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing on Tuesday.
The index tracking the country's logistics market, an indicator of economic vitality, stood at 51.2 percent in October, down 0.3 percentage points from the previous month.
Several sub-indices remained in expansion territory, including total business volume, new orders, fund turnover, fixed asset investment, employment and business activity expectations.
By region, the total business volume indices for east, central and west China were 51.1 percent, 50.8 percent and 51.4 percent respectively.
The new orders index came in at 51.5 percent, up 0.3 percentage points month on month. Regional differences were pronounced, as new orders rose in central and west China, but fell in the east.
"Although the climate index edged down in October, the industry's expansion trend remains unchanged. New orders increased overall, laying a foundation for steady logistics operations at year-end. Regional divergence also reflects differences in the pace of demand across the country. Overall, the logistics sector remains stable, with demand continuing to provide support and the basic conditions in place for steady performance throughout the year," said Cui Zhongfu, chief economist of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing.
