The 13th International Army Cadets Week (IACW) and "Future Co-creation" International Military Cadets Innovation Competition opened on Monday in Nanjing City, east China's Jiangsu Province.
The five-day event has brought together cadets from 11 military academies of 11 countries including South Korea, Singapore, Pakistan and Egypt, together with cadets from 15 Chinese military academies such as the PLA Naval University of Engineering and the PLA Army Arms University.
Themed "Addressing Key Regional Security Risks, Deepening International Military Security Cooperation, and Delivering International Public Security Products", the event provides an open and multilateral platform for academic exchanges and innovative practices.
First launched in 2005, the IACW has been held for 12 consecutive editions. This year marks the first time an international innovation competition is held in parallel. The competition features four thematic categories: international peacekeeping, escort missions, international rescue, and international and regional counterterrorism cooperation.
The competition showcases entries designed by the participating cadets, including an intelligent reconnaissance-and-strike robot for urban counterterrorism, a tactical water reconnaissance drone system, a visible-light intelligent camouflage system for peacekeeping operations, and an intelligent surveillance system powered by 3D Gaussian Splatting technology for embassies and consulates. Notably, Chinese and international participants are organized into mixed teams during the competition to discuss the design and practical application of their works.
"Organizing Chinese and foreign participants into mixed groups aims to foster understanding of joint operations and cultivate innovation capabilities through genuine collaboration. Many of the submissions received so far demonstrate strong potential for practical application, reflecting the participants' deep understanding of real-world security challenges," said Army Captain Li Kunyuan from the PLA Army Engineering University.
The event runs until Friday. During this period, foreign cadets will study and train alongside their Chinese classmates, gain firsthand insight into China's achievements in developing new and high technologies, and experience the charm of fine traditional Chinese culture.
