Deepening China-Gabon relations meets the common expectations of the people of both countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Friday during his talks with visiting Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in Beijing.

The two leaders announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a China-Gabon community with a shared future for the new era during their talks.

"I am very pleased to see you again, Mr. President. I visited Gabon in the 1990s and was deeply impressed by the development achievements of this 'land of green gold' of Africa. The traditional friendship between China and Gabon has a long history. For more than half a century, the two countries have adhered to equality, mutual support and common development, and China-Gabon relations have withstood the test of changing international circumstances and remained rock-solid," Xi said.

"Deepening China-Gabon relations meets the common expectations of the people of both countries and follows the trend of the Global South seeking strength through unity. To this end, I propose elevating our bilateral relations to a China-Gabon community with a shared future for the new era," Xi added.

"Political mutual trust is the cornerstone of our partnership. This meeting vividly reflects the profound friendship and brotherhood between our two countries over more than half a century. In recent years, our cooperation has been full of vitality, with a series of major projects in key areas being implemented. Today, we have the opportunity to further expand the scale of our cooperation and better benefit the peoples of both countries," said Nguema.

China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in Beijing on Friday, pledging to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation with Gabon.

During his meeting with Nguema, Zhao, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said China and Gabon have always treated each other with sincerity, supported one another, and pursued common development, serving as a fine model for China-Africa solidarity and cooperation.

China is willing to work with Gabon to follow the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, carry forward traditional friendship, consolidate political mutual trust, adhere to mutual benefit and win-win results, and promote closer people-to-people ties, to advance the in-depth development of bilateral relations, said Zhao.

Zhao said China's NPC stands ready to strengthen friendly exchanges with Gabon's parliament and share experiences in legislation and other areas. He also briefed Nguema on the 5th Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Nguema congratulated China on the successful convening of the 5th Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, adding that Gabon is willing to learn from the CPC's experience in governance.

Noting that Gabon-China relations are based on mutual respect, strategic mutual trust and mutual benefit, Nguema expressed the hope to deepen bilateral cooperation in fields such as mining and fishery, strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies, and promote mutual understanding and trust.

On Friday morning, Nguema laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes on Tian'anmen Square.
