Chinese President Xi Jinping called on China and Austria to jointly practice true multilateralism and support free trade when meeting with visiting Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker in Beijing on Friday.
Xi said the two countries should continue to deepen political mutual trust, and strengthen dialogue and cooperation.
"I am very pleased to meet with Chancellor Stocker. This year marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Austria. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China and Austria have adhered to the spirit of mutual respect, openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation. Political mutual trust has been continuously consolidated, and practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples," Xi said.
"Currently, as changes unseen in a century accelerate across the globe and the international situation is intertwined with changes and turmoil, the two sides should jointly practice true multilateralism, support free trade, oppose the strong bullying the weak, further deepen political mutual trust, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, and contribute to pushing for a more just and equitable global governance system," he noted.
For his part, Stocker underscored the need to enhance political trust between Austria and China.
"Respected Mr. President, it is my great pleasure and special honor to be here. This anniversary year provides a wonderful opportunity to support and reaffirm our partnership and mutual trust. In times like these, a long-standing foundation of trust is precisely what enables us to tackle challenges together whether in the economic sphere or across many other areas," he said.
