An international student from Malaysia named Liu Jingyu has volunteered her time to help out at the 4th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) in south China's Hainan Province, hoping to engage in more such activities to foster greater understanding of China.

The consumer products expo, which runs from April 13 to 18, has drawn over 4,000 brands from 71 countries and regions. It is China's only national-level exhibition featuring consumer products and the largest consumer expo in the Asia-Pacific region.

Liu is pursuing a degree at Haikou University of Economics. This year, she embarked on her first volunteer service at the consumer products expo. Her responsibilities involves serving exhibitors and visitors from different countries at the CICPE Badge Pick-up Point, where a constant flow of people came daily to obtain their certificates.

"I am a Malaysian and I can speak three languages. [The exhibitors and visitors] I met are from my hometown Malaysia, from Thailand, India, Russia, France, and the United States," she said.

Liu, an exhibition economics and management student, feels enriched by the valuable insights gained from this experience.

"In fact, I feel that the exhibition planning is worth learning," said Liu.

Meanwhile, Liu finds pride in her volunteer work at the expo, and she wishes to participate in more activities to promote better understanding of Hainan and China among foreign exhibitors, purchasers and visitors.

Liu is among the dedicated team of over a thousand volunteers at the expo, with the majority from renowned universities in Hainan. Their attentive and earnest service has garnered praise from both visitors and exhibitors.

"To ensure the services for this consumer products expo, we recruited more than 1,200 volunteers in the early stage. They can be seen inside and outside the exhibition hall, such as at our security checkpoint, the exhibition hall and our CICPE Badge Pick-up Point," said Wang Fei, volunteer service director of the expo.

More people are choosing rental cars for travel during the Labor Day holiday.

At a car rental agency in Beijing, many customers came to pick up their booked rental cars ahead of the five-day holiday which started on Wednesday.

"This time I plan to drive home with my girlfriend and her parents. Comparing with round-trip high-speed railway, rental car is actually cheaper. Besides, it's also much more convenient to go around at hometown if I can drive car," said Qiao, a customer.

While for Zhang, he planned to spend the holiday with his friends by driving to northwest China.

"I want to enjoy the grand view of our motherland with friends. Self-driving tour gives us more freedom," he said.

Most of the rented vehicles are SUVs and minivans. The proportion of new energy vehicles has also significantly increased.

Some consumers want to experience more new models during this holiday.

"We want to rent cars first, and then decide which one we want to purchase," Feng said, another customer.
