The late Mexican-American superstar singer Jenni Rivera is getting a biopic.
Jenni Rivera Enterprises said Tuesday it has partnered with production companies Mucho Mas Media and De Line Pictures to develop a film based on the life of the woman known as the "Diva de la Banda." Rivera died in December 2012 in a plane crash at age 43.
The film is being written by screenwriter Kate Lanier, who also wrote "Set It Off and the Tina Turner biopic "What's Love Got to Do With It."
Rivera, who sold some 15 million albums, was as admired for her soulful voice as she was for her openness about experiences with sexual assault and finding success in a male-dominated industry.
No cast, director or release date has been announced.
DUARTE, Calif. (AP) — Veteran actor T.K. Carter, who appeared in the horror film “The Thing” and “Punky Brewster” on television, has died at the age of 69.
Carter was declared dead Friday evening after deputies responded to a call regarding an unresponsive male in Duarte, California, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Police did not disclose a cause of death or other details, but said no foul play was suspected.
Carter had been acting for years before a breakthrough role as Nauls the cook in John Carpenter's 1982 horror classi, “The Thing.” He also had a recurring role in the 1980s sitcom “Punky Brewster.”
Other big-screen roles include “Runaway Train” in 1985, “Ski Patrol” in 1990 and “Space Jam” in 1996.
