China's first independently developed ultra-deepwater gas field, Shenhai Yihao or Deep Sea No.1, has completed construction of its phase II project, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) said on Thursday.
Located 200 km offshore from Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, the phase II project of deep Sea No.1 is the country's first deepwater high-pressure gas field development project operating at a maximum depth of around 1,000 meters in the sea.
A total of 13 key facilities were built during the construction of the phase II project of Deep Sea No.1, including a processing platform with weight of over 14,000 tons, five deep sea pipelines with length of 250 km in total, a underwater production system and 12 wells.
Progressing under more complicated seabed geological conditions, construction of the phase II project faced challenges brought by water depth, high temperature and high pressure.
The project team utilized deep water engineering equipment to complete the installation of the country's deep water oil and gas pipeline, with the shear scale of the phase II project breaking several industry records.
"The project team has fully mastered a package of technologies used for the design, construction, installation, and testing of deep-water high-pressure marine equipment. They have developed and applied various types of equipment first-made in the country. The team hoisted large facilities and installed underwater structures. We have kept up to the levels of leading developers around the world in terms of speed, quality, safety, and accuracy of the construction," said Guo Qing, project manager of the phase II project.
With proven geological reserves of natural gas exceeding 50 billion cubic meters, the phase II project of the Deep Sea No.1 will lift its annual production capacity from three billion cubic meters to 4.5 billion cubic meters, ensuring national energy security upon operation.
