People across China are having a joyful National Day holiday at tourism resorts, while various events have been held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The week-long holiday started on Tuesday, or Oct. 1, China's National Day.

The Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River, the second largest waterfall in China and the world's largest yellow waterfall, has wowed tourists in north China's Shanxi Province with a waterfall cluster that extends hundreds of meters.

Mount Huashan in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, one of China's five most famous scenic mountains and is known for its steep and perilous peaks, has immersed sightseers in its picturesque scenery.

The Taihang Mountain in Xinxiang City of central China's Henan Province is captivating tourists with its beauty of green ecology, while the Hunshadake Sandy Land in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is enchanting self-driving tourists with unique autumn scenery.

In northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the Jinzu Peak in Yichun City has become a vantage point for tourists to watch sunrise and immense forest.

Herdsmen at the Kundelun Ranch in Wenquan County of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region galloped their horses to welcome the National Day and express their affection for the motherland.

People in Penglai City of east China's Shandong Province sang patriotic songs and drew paintings together to wish the motherland a rich, strong and prosperous future, while vigorous dance performance was staged in Yiyang City of central China's Hunan Province in praise of the happy life.

In south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, people of the Dong miniroty in Sanjiang County held activities with their ethnic features to celebrate the National Day.

With the holiday boosting tourism, the city of Shaoxing in east China's Zhejiang Province is presenting the charm of water towns in south China to tourists, while the Longmenhao Old Street in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has also attracted a large number of visitors with its mountain city views and local cuisines.

Arab foreign ministers have approved a recommendation to support Egypt's nomination of its former Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy to Arab League (AL) secretary-general, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Sunday in a statement.

The decision came during the 165th regular session of the AL Council at the ministerial level, held via video conference, to discuss regional developments.

The recommendation will be submitted to the upcoming AL summit in Saudi Arabia, read the statement.

When appointed, Fahmy will hold the post for five years starting July 1, succeeding veteran diplomat Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, who has been the AL chief since 2016.

Fahmy, who served as Egypt's foreign minister from 2013 to 2014, is considered one of the country's prominent diplomats, with extensive experience in diplomacy and international relations.

He previously served as Egypt's ambassador to Japan from 1997 to 1999 and to the United States from 1999 to 2008, and is known for his expertise in regional and international security as well as disarmament.
