Joining the China International Import Expo (CIIE) for the seventh consecutive year and promoting its latest green agricultural products and technologies, Japan's Kao Corporation is aiming to expand its presence in China's huge market.

The company has seen new opportunities in China as the country is ramping up the green transition in all areas of economic and social development.

"We want to use the platform of the CIIE to let people understand our chemical technologies, so at this year's event, we are highlighting our newest products and technologies in the fields of smart agriculture and green agriculture, so as to take this opportunity to introduce them to Chinese consumers," said Koji Kurodai, president of Kao Chemicals Shanghai, at the seventh CIIE running from Nov. 5 to 10 in Shanghai.

"The most direct feeling for me is the large size of the Chinese market. Our clients in southern and northern China are using very different ways of farming, so we are using this platform to learn about the different needs of different places in China, and directly connect our technologies with their needs. That's our expectation for this CIIE," said Kurodai.

He said the company will increase investment in China.

"Now we have two plants in Huludao City (of northeast China's Liaoning Province) and Jinshan District (of Shanghai). And we are considering establishing production bases in some agricultural areas in China along with the expansion of market for our agricultural products. So our growth is not limited in Shanghai, as we will make investment arrangements across China based on the needs of our business development," said Kurodai.

The 2025 Longines Hong Kong International Races were held Sunday at the Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong, drawing a record-breaking 13,300 visitors in a single day.

As one of most popular sports in Hong Kong, horse racing is not only a unique cultural symbol of the city, but also reflects its professionalism as a host of major international sporting events.

Against the backdrop of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government's active push to develop horse-racing tourism, this year's international horse races have attracted an unprecedented number of visitors from across the world.

Just three months into the 2025-2026 racing season, the accumulated number of visitors has already surpassed 110,000.

"I used to watch horse racing on television, but being here in person is a completely different feeling. With the Year of the Horse coming up next year, we also hope more people will fall in love with the sport," said a tourist from the Chinese mainland.

Sunday's event saw 10 races, including four Group 1 races boasting a total prize of 16.7 million U.S. dollars. Of the 45 horses taking part, 20 were previous Group 1 winners, and 19 were overseas horses.
