The Chinese and Singaporean militaries kicked off the Exercise Cooperation-2024 joint army training in central China's Henan Province on Tuesday morning, focusing on urban joint counter-terrorism operations.

The exercise aims to strengthen the capabilities of the two militaries in joint counter-terrorism operations.

At the launching ceremony, the commanders of China and Singapore announced the official start of the joint exercise.

"We will conduct the mixed-group joint training, field drill, and cultural exchange activities during the exercise. We will explore the training and combat tactics of the joint mission army through mutual learning, mutual teaching and exchanges to strengthen the two militaries' capabilities in counter-terrorism operations and emergency handling. We also hope this exercise will further enhance the friendship and mutual trust between the Chinese and Singaporean militaries," said Shi Yuheng, commander of the Exercise Cooperation-2024 joint army training from the Chinese side.

During the mixed-group joint training, members from both sides will complete training subjects including basic tactical maneuvers, self and mutual rescue, and small-arms operation.

During the field drill of the exercise, members from both sides will conduct eight training subjects including reconnaissance and monitoring, assaults and rescue, and casualty searching and treatment.

The Exercise Cooperation joint army training is an established cooperation project between the two militaries, and this year's training marks the sixth of its kind.

White House envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner are likely to lead a delegation to visit Kiev after April 12, a senior Ukrainian official said on Saturday.

This comes as the United States continues to mediate peace efforts between Ukraine and Russia.

Speaking to the media, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, and others could also join the delegation.

Both sides have made progress and are moving forward on the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, he said.

Budanov also said that Ukraine has received requests from its international allies to stop airstrikes on Russian oil refineries as global energy prices surge amid the conflict in the Middle East.

The Ukrainian and U.S. delegations last met for negotiations in Florida on March 21.
