The China-Singapore Exercise Cooperation-2024 joint army training showcased the growing importance of unmanned systems in modern military operations, particularly in urban counter-terrorism scenarios.   A standout feature of this year's drill was the deployment of a wide range of unmanned intelligent equipment, reflecting the growing role of technology in combat.   Bomb-disposal robots were highlighted during the clearing and evacuation phases, demonstrating capabilities such as advanced mechanical design, intelligent sensing, efficient algorithms and the ability to navigate complex and hazardous environments.   The training also featured other innovative unmanned systems, including wall-climbing robots, integrated reconnaissance-and-strike vehicles and wall-breaching drones.   These systems excelled in reconnaissance and assault scenarios, earning praise from participants for their ability to boost mission efficiency and precision.   "By integrating manned and unmanned systems in the actual combats, we achieved a '1+1>2' effect. For instance, during vertical assaults, wall-breaching drones shattered windows in advance, allowing assault teams to enter buildings more quickly and conveniently," said Kou Fangbo, a Chinese soldier participating in the exercise.   From the setup of environments such as high-rises, urban districts and jungles to the execution of tactics and combat techniques, every detail and training module in this joint counter-terrorism operation in urban areas exercise exuded a strong sense of practicality.   Additionally, various potential counter-terrorism scenarios, including reconnaissance, assault, rescue and clearing missions, were designed to repeatedly challenge both teams.   This year marks the sixth joint army training between the two countries, with integration between the two sides continuing to deepen.   Beyond mixed team formations, the command center personnel were also fused, ensuring participation from both sides in every stage.

"Each joint command operation by our commanders and every training session by our members is a process of mutual understanding, deeper connections, and enhanced integration. Only through the continuous exchange of ideas and collaboration can we improve the joint counter-terrorism capabilities of both armies," said Chen Tao, a Chinese military officer of the drill.

The exercise, an established cooperation project between the two sides, aims to deepen pragmatic cooperation between the two armies and strengthen their capabilities in joint counter-terrorism operations.

Nicaragua's co-foreign minister Valdrack Jaentschke has warned that militarism must never be allowed to rise again, as Japan's recent moves to lift its arms export ban and revise the pacifist Constitution continue to draw international concern.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Tokyo Trials, where Japan's Class-A war criminals from World War II were brought to justice.

In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Valdrack Jaentschke voiced his concern that today's world order is being undermined by interventionism and other challenges.

"It is necessary for us to remember that after the end of World War II, countries worked hard to build a new international order based on international law. However, regrettably, more than 80 years later, we are seeing that this once explored and attempted order is being challenged by interventionism, a confrontational mindset, and tendencies like 'might makes right.' These are precisely the conditions that gave rise to fascism and militarism in the past, which ultimately led to the tragedy of World War II," he said.

He said the international community has a responsibility to pursue a new international order -- one fundamentally grounded in peace.

"Looking back at the history more than eight decades ago and comparing it with today's reality, it is our responsibility to recognize that the world should, and must, build a new international order that is more just, fairer, rooted in international law, based on a logic of mutual benefit and shared success, and fundamentally grounded in peace," said the minister.

"Today, as we revisit the Tokyo Trials, it is meant to remind the world that such a tragedy must never be repeated -- and that we must do everything in our power to prevent it from happening again. We must stop that dark world -- born from militarism, interventionism, and fascism -- from ever returning," he said.
