Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Saturday met with British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, who is in Beijing for the 11th China-UK Economic and Financial Dialog.

Noting that China attaches great importance to developing relations with Britain, Han pointed out that the resumption of the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialog is a concrete action to implement the important consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during their meeting in November 2024.

China and Britain are both major economies and financial heavyweights in the world, Han said, pointing out that strengthening economic and financial cooperation in the spirit of strategic partnership is of great significance to promoting economic growth, improving people's life and encouraging green development in these two countries.

It will also inject confidence and impetus into the development of the world economy, Han added.

China is willing to continue to expand openness and exchanges with Britain, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation to bring more benefits to the two countries and the world, said Han.

Reeves said the resumption of this dialog after nearly six years is of great significance.

The British side attaches importance to developing relations with China and is willing to strengthen candid dialog and mutually beneficial cooperation with China to promote the economic development of each country, she added.

China is deeply concerned about the spillover effects of the U.S.-Israeli air strikes against Iran, which have affected Iran's neighboring countries, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Tuesday.

Since the United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on Saturday, U.S. military targets in member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and in Jordan have also come under attack. The countries concerned have issued statements condemning the attacks.

"The United States and Israel carried out military strikes against Iran without authorization from the UN Security Council, which is in violation of international law. China expresses deep concern about the spillover effects of the conflict on neighboring countries. China believes that the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Gulf countries should also be fully respected. We urge all parties to cease military actions to prevent further spread of the fighting," Mao said at a press conference in Beijing.
