As the opening ceremony of the Asian Winter Games is set for Friday, Harbin International Airport is seeing a peak in inbound visitors coming for the Asian Winter Games on Wednesday.

On the day alone, Harbin welcomed 780 visitors associated with the Asian Winter Games, marking a travel peak since the city launched official entry and exit services for the Winter Games.

To ensure smooth and efficient travel, Harbin Airport opened all 20 of its border check lanes, including four special lanes dedicated to the Asian Winter Games.

"At this time, we are seeing a convergence of travelers returning after the Spring Festival, inbound tourists, and those coming for the Asian Winter Games, and the border port sees a rapid growth of entry and exit traffic. As today witnessed the peak of arrivals for the games, all of our staff are on duty to guide and divert the traffic, and ensure a smooth customs clearance," said Wang Jiming, a police officer at the border inspection station of Harbin.

According to local authorities, 148 members with the Asian Winter Games from 11 countries and regions entered China via the airport port in Harbin on Wednesday, eager to showcase their best performances.

"I am competing in the Alpine Skiing event. I am very very proud and excited to be representing Malaysia here," said Aruwin Idami binti Salehhuddin, an athlete from Team Malaysia.

"This is my first time to participate in an Olympic-related major sports event. I am looking forward to testing my ability and seeing how far I can go," said Sakai Maria, an athlete from Team Japan.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday welcomed Iran's announcement that the Strait of Hormuz is completely open for all commercial vessels during the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, said his spokesman.

"The secretary-general considers this a step in the right direction. The United Nations’ position remains clear: we need the full restoration of international navigational rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz to be respected by all parties," said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN secretary-general, in a statement.

"The secretary-general remains fully supportive of the diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful path forward out of the current conflict in the Middle East. He also hopes that, together with the ceasefire, this measure will contribute to creating confidence between the parties and strengthen the ongoing dialogue facilitated by Pakistan," said the statement.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday declared that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire.

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi posted on X that the Strait of Hormuz is now declared completely open to commercial vessels during the remainder of the ceasefire.
