Marvel's "Captain America: Brave New World" hit theaters in Chinese mainland on Friday, earning mixed reviews from critics and fans.

"Captain America: Brave New World" continues the story of Sam Wilson, portrayed by Anthony Mackie, who has taken up the mantle of Captain America. In this film, Sam faces challenges from political pressures and an international crisis. This marks his debut as the new Captain America in a major feature film.

"For me, the change in the leading character is something I was looking forward to. Audiences tend to experience a bit of fatigue with long-running IPs," said Li Yang, a moviegoer.

But the response was not uniformly positive, with some viewers expressing reservations.

"For some Marvel fans, Captain America: Brave New World may fall short, especially when compared to the first two films in the series. I don't mind Anthony Mackie, but I'm used to the previous lead. For me, Steve Rogers will always be the true Captain America," said Meng Boyuan, another audience.

During the recent Spring Festival holiday, China's film market saw unprecedented prosperity. In particular, the domestic animated film Ne Zha 2 gained widespread popularity, surpassing 10 billion yuan at the box office and continuing to climb.

"The enthusiasm for films from the Spring Festival period is still high. From today on, some international films will gradually be introduced to domestic cinemas. People are paying more attention to Chinese films recently as they are getting better and better, but at the same time, audiences also want more variety and novelty," said Ma Lina, manager of a cinema in Beijing.

Manager Ma's insights were also echoed by some viewers.

"I think domestic films are great, but foreign ones, like Marvel, should also be imported. Each has its own strengths and promotes different values," said Sui Xinru, a movie viewer.

Large protests took place in Rome on Saturday as trade unions and social groups rallied against military actions by the United States and Israel targeting Iran.

Demonstrators said the escalating tensions in the Middle East risk further destabilizing the region and increasing global tensions.

Saturday's rally was one of the largest recent demonstrations in the Italian capital opposing the strikes on Iran. Protesters said European countries should avoid being drawn into new military confrontations and instead push for diplomacy and dialogue to ease regional tensions.

For some, the strikes reflect a broader narrative of heightened tensions around the world, which they hope will be reigned in.

"The genocide in Palestine is still ongoing. Venezuela has been subjected to aggression. And now Iran is being bombed. We oppose dragging the world into war. We demand the right of people in every country to live in peace, and we call for peaceful diplomatic solutions," said Giuliano Granato, spokesperson of Power to the People, a political party in Italy.

Others emphasized that military conflicts may be used by governments as a distraction from the plight of everyday people.

"We are paying the price for these wars. It is workers, retirees and people on fixed incomes who are bearing the cost. We hope the government will take measures to address these economic impacts," said Guido Lutrario, member of the national executive of Unione Sindacale di Base (USB), an Italian labor union.

More than 1,300 people have been killed in Israeli and American strikes, Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday, citing Iranian officials.
