A two-state solution is the only realistic way to break the cycle of Palestinian-Israeli conflicts, said Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang on Monday.
Attending the fourth high-level meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in Cairo, Liao, who is also China's representative to the League of Arab States, said that China is highly concerned about the current situation in Gaza and believes the international community should push for the complete and continuous implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
Gaza is an inalienable part of the Palestinian territory, and future arrangements for Gaza should respect the will of the Palestinian people, abide by international law and UN resolutions, and heed the legitimate concerns of regional countries, Liao said, adding that China supports the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in playing an active role in the post-war governance and reconstruction of Gaza.
"The two-state solution is the only realistic way to break the cycle of the Palestinian-Israeli conflicts, and China calls upon the international community to make good use of platforms such as the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution to forge a greater consensus and promote the early realization of a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question," he said.
Saudi Arabia, in cooperation with Norway and the European Union, established the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly debate on Sept. 26, 2024.
Representatives of 35 countries and international organizations participated in Monday's meeting to discuss UNRWA's role in the implementation of the two-state solution and the impact of the Israeli law that prohibits the agency from operating on Israeli soil and from contacting Israeli officials.
