Chinese, Hungarian FMs meet at UN headquarters

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto on Tuesday at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated that the world today is plagued by chaos,and global governance is facing challenges. As the rotating president of the United Nations Security Council for this month, China has proposed convening a high-level meeting on practicing multilateralism, reforming and improving global governance, he said.

Wang added that China is willing to take the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations as an opportunity to work with the international community to promote true multilateralism and jointly safeguard world peace and stability, which aligns with the interests of all parties and the expectations of the international community. He said China appreciates Hungary's rational and objective stance on hotspot conflict issues and believes that Hungary will remain committed to peace and stability in Europe, playing an important and unique role in this regard.

Szijjarto said that in a turbulent world China is actively working to build international consensus and plays a leading role in promoting world peace and improving global governance, which Hungary values highly. Hungary supports and will actively participate in the proposed high-level meeting, and Hungary will continue to strengthen communication and cooperation with China, he said.

Both sides spoke highly of China-Hungary bilateral relations. Wang appreciated Hungary's consistent view of China as a development opportunity, emphasizing that no matter how the international situation changes, China will always be a reliable partner for Hungary. Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, Wang expressed confidence that Hungary will continue to play a constructive role in the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations.

Szijjarto stated that Hungary cherishes its friendship with China and is pleased with the close high-level exchanges and good communication between the two countries. He noted that practical cooperation in various fields has achieved significant results and expressed Hungary's willingness to work with China to continuously elevate bilateral relations to new heights. He also underlined that effective cooperation between Europe and China serves the common interests of all parties, and Hungary will continue to promote the development of Europe-China relations.

Myanmar's new President U Min Aung Hlaing met Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese foreign minister, in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar's capital, on Saturday.

Noting that Myanmar consistently regards its relationship with China as the most important bilateral tie, U Min Aung Hlaing emphasized that Myanmar stays committed to the one-China principle and highly appreciates and actively supports the China-proposed four global initiatives.

The new Myanmar government expects to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, advance the construction of the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor, and work together to maintain border peace and stability, while continuously deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, the president said.

Myanmar will never allow any activities that harm China's interests within its borders, and will continue to intensify its crackdown on online gambling and telecom fraud and take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions and projects in Myanmar, he added.

For his part, Wang stressed that China's policy toward Myanmar remains consistent. China firmly supports Myanmar in following a successful development path that suits its national conditions and is supported by its people; firmly supports Myanmar in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity; and firmly supports Myanmar in achieving national peace, reconciliation and social harmony, he said.

Wang also noted that building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future perfectly aligns with the development and revitalization needs of both countries and serves the fundamental interests of both peoples, urging both sides to unswervingly follow this path.

China is willing to cooperate with Myanmar to resolutely and thoroughly eradicate online gambling and telecom fraud, he noted. China will also support Myanmar's participation in more dialogue and cooperation mechanisms and the enhancement of its interaction with ASEAN, Wang added.
