China's top political advisory body concluded on Monday with a call in its work to serve the modernization drive and enhance solidarity of all Chinese people.

The closing meeting of the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held at the Great Hall of the people in Beijing.

Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered a speech at the meeting.

"We need to bear in mind the nature and position of the CPPCC, work to pursue unity and democracy, make solid efforts in rallying people's support, building greater consensus, and pooling wisdom and strength, and continuously enhance our capacity for political consultation, democratic oversight and participation in and deliberation of state affairs, so as to better shoulder our political responsibilities of implementing the CPC Central Committee's decisions, plans, and its requirements for the CPPCC's work, and of pooling the wisdom and strength of all Chinese people at home and abroad," he said.

Wang stressed the importance of focusing on China's modernization in the CPPCC's work.

"We need to conduct in-depth research, provide good suggestions, and make sound proposals by focusing on major, difficult and hotspot issues concerning further deepening across-the-board reform, advancing high-quality development, ensuring and improving people's wellbeing, and maintaining social harmony and stability. We need to better serve the overall national interests and promote solidarity through high-quality consultations and high-level proposals that focus on the country's most fundamental interests and public concerns. All CPPCC members should dedicate ourselves to our duties, work diligently, and make our due contributions, thus shouldering our responsibilities with concrete actions," he said.

Wang called on the CPPCC to give full play to its political role in uniting the people for the country's endeavor.

"We need to make sure that the CPPCC delivers to the people by building up mechanisms through which the CPPCC can reflect social realities and public opinions, remain in close touch with the people, and serve the people. We need to constantly enhance the great solidarity of the Chinese people of all ethnic groups and the solidarity among all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation at home and abroad," he said.

The CPPCC is an integral part of China's system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

The 14th CPPCC National Committee's annual session opened on March 4 this year.

Giant pandas at the Taipei Zoo are gifts from the Chinese mainland to Taiwan compatriots and certain Japanese politicians' remarks about Japanese zoos' panda exchange negotiations with the Taipei Zoo are absurd, said a spokesman of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

In response to a question regarding such remarks at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday, Peng Qing'en, the spokesman, said such claims by certain Japanese politicians are nothing but a pipe dream.

The claims from Japan came out as the panda lease agreement between China and Japan is about to expire, and the last two giant pandas in Japan will return to China in early 2026.

"Certain Japanese politicians' absurd remarks are nothing but a pipe dream. The giant pandas gifted to the Taiwan region are gifts from mainland compatriots to their Taiwan folks. They represent an important achievement in the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and are deeply cherished by Taiwan compatriots, especially youngsters, bringing them joy and fond memories. As the national treasure, giant pandas deserve to be cherished by compatriots on both sides of the Strait. If Taiwan separatist forces dare to use giant pandas as a tribute to curry favor with Japan, they are bound to face the wrath of compatriots on both sides of the Strait," Peng said.
