The ultimate solution to the Palestinian question must return to the right track of the two-state solution, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.
Mao made the remarks in response to a media query about the Palestinian question.
Arab leaders approved last week an Egyptian reconstruction plan for Gaza, which is estimated to cost 53 billion U.S. dollars and aims to avoid displacing Palestinians from the enclave.
The plan was accepted at the closing of the emergency Arab summit held in Cairo with full support from participating the Arab leaders.
"At a press conference on the margins of China 'two sessions', Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China supports the plan for restoring peace at an early date and starting reconstruction in Gaza initiated by Egypt and other Arab countries. On the Palestinian question, China always supports the legitimate concerns and justified positions of Arab and Islamic countries, and always holds that the post-conflict governance of Gaza should uphold the principle of 'the Palestinians governing Palestine' and let the Palestinian people rebuild their homes on their own territory. In the long run, the ultimate solution to the Palestinian question must return to the right track of the two-state solution. China will continue to work with the international community to play a constructive role to this end," Mao said.
