PLA launches "Strait Thunder-2025A" exercises in middle, southern areas of Taiwan Strait

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theater Command on Wednesday conducted military exercises code-named "Strait Thunder-2025A" in the middle and southern areas of the Taiwan Strait, said a spokesman for the PLA Eastern Theater Command .

The exercises focus on subjects of identification and verification, warning and expulsion, and interception and detention to test the troops' capabilities of area regulation and control, joint blockade and control, and precision strikes on key targets, according to Senior Colonel Shi Yi, the spokesman.

Crude futures settle higher

Oil prices advanced on Thursday.

The West Texas Intermediate for May delivery added 4.16 dollars, or 4.61 percent, to settle at 94.48 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Brent crude for May delivery went up 5.79 dollars, or 5.66 percent, to settle at 108.01 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
