More than 100 million home appliances have been sold under China's consumer goods trade-in program as of Thursday, since the government pushed to boost consumer spending since late August last year, said the Ministry of Commerce on Friday.
According to the ministry, Chinese consumers have purchased a total of 100.35 million units of household appliances under the trade-in policy.
Since ramping up efforts with financial incentives in late August last year, the government has expanded the program to include more types of home appliances, with individuals now eligible for subsidies on up to three air conditioners.
Additionally, the program's scope and application process have been streamlined for greater efficiency.
Local governments have stepped up the implementation of the program, tailoring it to regional needs. For instance, in east China's Anhui Province, trade-in stores have been added to the government's public service platform map for easier access. Meanwhile, in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, 623 standardized recycling stations have been established, increasing the recycling rate of old appliances to 92 percent.
So far, over 7,000 consumption-boosting activities for home appliances have been organized, with nearly 30,000 planned for the year.
