The mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the Netherlands has long been at the forefront of China-EU collaboration, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp in Beijing.
"The Netherlands has always been a supporter of free trade and has consistently upheld multilateralism on the international stage. Although China and the Netherlands have different systems and distinct civilizations, the peoples of both countries share a pioneering, innovative and tenacious spirit. Both sides have embraced the principles of openness and pragmatism, and their mutually beneficial cooperation has long been at the forefront of China-EU collaboration," said Wang.
Noting that currently, unilateralism, protectionism, and power politics are severely disrupting the international trade system and undermining global governance, Wang said China is willing to strengthen communication and dialog with the Netherlands, deepen practical cooperation, and enhance multilateral collaboration, demonstrating the value of the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries.
This will not only benefit the peoples of both countries, but also contribute to the development of China-EU relations, the recovery of the global economy, and the stability of international industrial and supply chains, said Wang.
Highlighting that bilateral trade between China and the Netherlands has exceeded 100 billion U.S. dollars for four consecutive years, Wang said both countries have achieved fruitful results from cooperation in areas of agriculture, water conservancy, green development, and high-tech industries.
Veldkamp said the Netherlands respects China, the Chinese people, and the Chinese culture, and admires the remarkable development achievements China has made.
"For the Netherlands, the relationship with China is one of the most consequential ones that we have, touching on many aspects of government policy, and indeed of our society. The European Union and the Netherlands want to work with China on the global challenges that we are facing together," said the Dutch foreign minister.
He expressed his hope that both sides will explore deeper collaboration on such matters as climate change, green transition, upholding the multilateral system, and women's rights.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues, including the Ukraine crisis.
