China and the Netherlands are highly complementary in the field of semiconductors, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Friday, underlining that cooperation between the two sides will lead to win-win outcomes.

Following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's talks with visiting Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp on Thursday, China and the Netherlands agreed to maintain close communication concerning cooperation in multiple fields, including semiconductor technology, via existing channels.

Mao Ning, the spokeswoman, reiterated China's position on the global semiconductor industry at a press conference in Beijing, saying China is willing to work with the Netherlands to maintain the global semiconductor industrial chain.

"Regarding the issue of semiconductor export control, China has stated its position many times. The semiconductor industry is highly globalized, and the formation of the industrial chain and supply chain is the result of market selection and business decisions. For some time, some countries have generalized the concept of national security and excessively applying export controls and long-arm jurisdiction, which seriously threatened the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain," said the spokeswoman.

"China and the Netherlands have strong complementary ties in the semiconductor sector. Cooperation between the two sides will lead to mutually beneficial results. The two sides will maintain close communication through existing channels. China is willing to work with the international community, including the Netherlands, to adhere to open cooperation and jointly maintain the stability of the global semiconductor industrial chain and supply chain," Mao said.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said on Wednesday that Seoul firmly adheres to the one-China principle, in comments made ahead of his upcoming state visit to China.

The remarks were made in an interview with China Media Group (CMG). The visit is scheduled for Jan 4–7.

"The consensus reached between governments of the Republic of Korea and China when diplomatic relations were established continues to be the fundamental principle governing our relations, and its effectiveness remains steadfast. I want to clearly state that the ROK has always adhered to the one-China principle. Maintaining peace and stability in regional matters, including in Northeast Asia and concerning the Taiwan issue, holds significant importance to us," said Lee.

"The foundational relationship between the ROK and China was established on a very principled and fundamental basis from the beginning. It is clear that the ROK government has always adhered to this position and has never wavered from it. I believe that the sound development of ROK-China relations depends on both sides fully respecting each other's core interests and being mutually tolerant of each other's positions. In this context, we will, as always, uphold the one-China principle as the Taiwan issue is China's most fundamental concern," he said.
