Sixteen more children, 10 of whom are cancer patients, were evacuated from the war-torn Gaza Strip to hospitals in Jordan for medical treatment on Wednesday.

This marks the fifth group of child patients to arrive under the Jordan-Gaza Medical Corridor initiative launched earlier this year.

Twelve of the children were transported to Jordan by land, while the four others were airlifted aboard Royal Jordanian Air Force helicopters. The children were accompanied by 48 family members.

One child will be transferred to Saudi Arabia and another to the United Arab Emirates for further treatment. The rest will be sent to major hospitals in Jordan for treatment.

The evacuation was carried out in coordination with Jordan's Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization.

"We've come here just for the child. We need treatment in a proper and appropriate way. Here, there are professional doctors paying attention to his condition, and they will know exactly what disease he has got. Doctors in charge in Gaza don't know what's wrong with him, because, honestly, there is nothing in Gaza. They merely did an X-ray for his head, but they couldn't determine his illness," said Fatima Omar Muhammad, an accopanying family member.

"My son is suffering from a tumor in the thyroid gland. As a mother, the feeling of seeing a child fall ill but receive no treatment in Gaza is truly very painful. We don't have treatment in Gaza, because the situation in Gaza is very, very, very tragic. There is no treatment, even no hospital, no basic hospital there," said Umm Mahmoodul, another accompanying family member.

In February, Jordanian King Abdullah II announced his country's readiness to receive up to 2,000 Palestinian children for medical care. Jordan has evacuated a total of 57 children and 113 accompanying relatives from Gaza since March.
