In response to U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities, Iran launched a new round of missile attacks on Israel on Sunday, deploying its multi-warhead Kheibar Shekan (Castle Buster) ballistic missile for the first time.
According to a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran fired 40 missiles at Israel.
The Kheibar Shekan missiles are equipped with multiple agile, highly explosive warheads that can be guided up until the moment of impact, enhancing both their accuracy and destructive power.
The statement said that the targets in this round of attacks included Israeli military command and control centers, a defense science and technology research facility, and Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
China Media Group (CMG) reporter Zhao Bing, reporting from Israel-controlled Jerusalem, described the situation as airstrikes in the city began on Sunday morning.
"I am currently in Jerusalem, and we can hear air raid sirens sounding continuously over the city. At the same time, air raid alerts are also being triggered across central and northern regions of Israel," he said.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, the Israeli Air Force took action on Sunday to destroy Iranian missile launchers and launched a new round of strikes on military targets in western Iran.
At around 11:00 local time on Sunday, Israel's Channel 12 released footage showing the Israeli military launching airstrikes on Iranian military facilities in Tabriz, northwestern Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday night that the United States had carried out strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran: Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
