Russia on Wednesday claimed control of one more settlement in the Donetsk region, while Ukraine, on the same day, reported striking on multiple Russian military targets.

The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces had taken control of the settlement of Yalta in the Donetsk region, while also striking Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and drone production workshops.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian air defenses intercepted multiple aerial bombs and shot down 335 Ukrainian drones, the ministry said.

In a separate statement, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had killed two suspects working for Ukrainian intelligence during a raid on a clandestine location in the Moscow region.

The FSB said the individuals were preparing explosives for a terrorist attack targeting Russian military personnel.

Also on Wednesday, the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported striking on eight Russian troop and equipment concentrations, destroying artillery pieces, drone control points, and ammunition depots.

Ukraine's Air Force also said that Russian forces launched dozens of attack drones targeting Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv, with Ukrainian defenses downing 52 of them across the eastern, southern, and northern fronts.

The Bayannur section of the Yellow River in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region became fully frozen as of 07:00 Sunday, officially entering its stable winter ice period.

Freezing of the river commenced on December 4, 2025, but repeated thawing and refreezing driven by temperature fluctuations and higher water flow postponed a full, stable freeze-over. The entire process lasted 48 days, 29 days longer than the previous year, making it the longest freezing period for this section in recent years.

In response to the extended and volatile freezing process, local authorities in Bayannur City and districts along the river have intensified their ice-jam prevention efforts. Officials have been conducting thorough inspections to identify and manage any potential obstacles within the river channel that could contribute to dangerous ice dams.

To ensure safety and stability during the frozen season, a 24-hour monitoring and patrol system has been implemented along the riverbanks to watch for any signs of ice-related hazards.
