The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival and the 30th Shanghai TV Festival collaborated for the first time ever to launch a series of events in integration, including offline screening project and talent incubation exploration, to further ignite new vigor and vitality in the film and television industry.
As an important part of the Shanghai TV Festival, this year's city-wide offline screening project, known as the Magnolia Showcase, selected 29 outstanding domestic and international works from nearly 1,000 submissions.
Moreover, this year marks the first collaboration between the offline screening project and the film festival for joint promotion, featuring eight sections that include children's programming, classic Chinese animation, and a special exhibition of works from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
"This year marks the first collaboration between the film festival and TV festival, featuring an integral curation approach. We have launched a special section on Jane Austen, aiming to delve into contemporary interpretations of such classic literary works by exploring the relationship between literature, films and television," said Cao Yin, deputy managing director and deputy general manager of Shanghai International Film and TV Festivals, Co., Ltd.
For the first time so far this year, the film festival's film market and the TV festival's TV market have merged to establish the International Film and TV Market, coinciding with the release of the "2025 Report on Film and Television Talent Development in China's Audiovisual Platforms."
According to reports, with the changes in the dissemination modes of film and television works and the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, there has been a profound transformation of human resources training models for the film and television industry.
"Take China Media Group (CMG) as an example. The national broadcaster has collaborated with multimedia platforms to introduce a variety of scriptwriting and support programs, such as the 'Spring Seedling Scriptwriting Program,' collectively establishing a talent incubation ecosystem," said Wang Xiaohong, professor with the Communication University of China.
The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival took place from June 13 to 22, and the 30th Shanghai Television Festival was held directly after the film festival from June 23 to 27.
