China is witnessing a travel boom as the summer vacation kicks off, with cities across the country launching a diverse range of cultural, scientific, and film-related events to attract students from across the globe.

In the ancient city of Jingzhou, in central China's Hubei Province, the allure of exploring China's Three Kingdoms Period (220–280) is drawing visitors from far and wide.

A group of international students recently visited the historic site, dressed in Hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group, as they immersed themselves in the legendary stories of famous heroes from Chinese history.

"Visiting Jingzhou helped me better understand the historical figures of Zhang Fei, Liu Bei and Guan Yu," said an international student from Yangtze University.

Meanwhile, in southwest China's Chongqing, many students and their families explored modern farming technologies at a local agricultural science base. During the tour, experts guided them through the cultivation process and scientific applications of loofahs. Later, visitors crafted dish sponges and decorative lamps from loofah fiber.

The visit continued into an AI-powered smart agriculture factory, which features an eco-friendly system where vegetables, fish, and algae coexist in harmony. This soil-free, fertilizer-free, and water-saving approach demonstrates a circular, pollution-free model of sustainable farming.

"You can grow vegetables and raise fish at the same time with no pollution and zero emissions. It's something we cannot learn from textbooks," said Zhao Yangxuan, a student on the tour.

In Lanzhou, the capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, outdoor public film screenings are providing a fresh way for both locals and tourists to experience the city. Blending cinema with tourism, these open-air screenings take place in scenic parks, historic sites, and public squares.

"Watching a movie outdoors -- the fresh air, the great environment, and the big crowd really add to the atmosphere. And the best part is, they’re showing my favorite movie! I feel so happy!" said Fang Zongrui, a local boy.

This summer, Lanzhou plans to host 9,000 free screenings at cultural and tourist landmarks throughout the city, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy both cinematic entertainment and the city's sights.
