China hopes that the European Union (EU) will offer a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for enterprises from all countries, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
Mao made the remarks in response to a media query about the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) announcing an investigation into alleged data transfers of Chinese short video sharing application TikTok to China.
"The Chinese government attaches great importance to and protects data privacy and security in accordance with the law. It has never and will never require enterprises or individuals to collect or store data in illegal ways. We hope the EU will truly respect the principles of the market economy and fair competition by offering a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for enterprises from all countries," Mao said.
