Nauruan President David Adeang's personal experience undergoing acupuncture, which he described as "close to a miracle," has contributed to his call for a permanent team of Chinese traditional medicine practitioners to be stationed in the island country. During a recent visit to Jiangmen in south China's Guangdong Province, where he and his family explored their ancestral ties, Adeang spoke with China Media Group (CMG) about how the treatment helped him recover from a painful rib injury.

"A Chinese traditional medicine team came to Nauru early this year, and I had a very big problem after lifting some weight in the gym, and I had a big problem with one of my ribs. It got so painful that I couldn't get up properly, but I managed to get to the hospital. The Chinese lady stuck a few pins in there," said Adeang.

"I walked out there just normal, and I was back to gym the same day. I don't know what she did, but it was close to a miracle, because I was taking painkillers that weren't working for me. I'm encouraging the ambassador to bring over a team that can be stationed permanently in Nauru for a longer term," he said

Adeang traveled to China to embark on a four-day root-tracing journey on July 6. Upon verification by relevant authorities, it has been confirmed that Adeang's great-grandfather's ancestral home is the ancient Chikan town of Jiangmen.
