Nauruan President David Adeang described the commitment to the one-China principle as a cornerstone of his country's relationship with China, in an interview with China Media Group, which was aired on Friday.
Commenting on Nauru's resumption of diplomatic ties with China in January 2024, Adeang said it has brought impressive development and growth to his country and expressed his confidence in the economic prospects.
"We made the right decision. No question about it. Our development and our economic growth have been clearly impressive since we got into a relationship with China. And the economic and development prospects can only improve substantially in the coming, maybe not years, but in the coming months. That is how bullish we feel about our economic relationship with China," he said.
"We have no issues. We have already committed to the one-China principle and that is the cornerstone of our relationship with China," said the president.
On Jan 24, 2024, China and Nauru signed a joint communique in Beijing on the resumption of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.
According to the joint communique, the Government of the Republic of Nauru recognizes that there is but one China in the world, the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal Government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.
