Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in north China's Tianjin Municipality on Saturday on bilateral relations.

Oli arrived in Tianjin earlier in the day to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025, scheduled for Sunday and Monday.

At the meeting, Xi said China and Nepal are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and are both peace-loving and self-reliant countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries 70 years ago, the peoples of the two countries have stood together in solidarity and shared weal and woe, writing together a historic chapter of China-Nepal good-neighborliness and friendship, Xi said, adding that China and Nepal are now making steady progress in pursuing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and that the two peoples have become more familiar and close to each other.

China stands ready to work with Nepal to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries, and to promote new and greater development of the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Nepal featuring friendship for generations, which is oriented towards development and prosperity, Xi said.

Xi stressed that the two countries should enhance strategic mutual trust, and support each other on issues that bear on each other's core interests and major concerns.

The two sides should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, work together to advance Belt and Road cooperation, and strengthen inter-connectivity of ports, roads, power grids, aviation sectors and communication networks, Xi said.

He also urged efforts to promote cooperation in areas including industries, agriculture and animal husbandry, new energy, environmental protection, oil and gas, artificial intelligence, education, health care, law enforcement and security, and continue well holding events to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal.

The two countries should strengthen communication and coordination on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the SCO, jointly support free trade and sustainable development, and uphold international fairness and justice, Xi said.

For his part, Oli said the Nepal-China relations have withstood all kinds of tests and grown stronger over time. The two countries have always respected and trusted each other, and accommodated each other's concerns. Cooperation with China has vigorously promoted Nepal's economic and social development.

He said Nepal firmly upholds the one-China principle, resolutely opposes "Taiwan independence", and will not allow any force to use its territory to harm China's interests.

Nepal hopes to deepen collaboration with China, advance Belt and Road cooperation, and strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology, tourism, climate change response and other fields for more positive outcomes, said Oli.

Nepal supports the China-proposed Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative, values the role of the SCO, actively practices the Shanghai Spirit, and looks forward to China playing a greater role in international affairs, said the Nepali prime minister.

Oli will also attend the commemorative events to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War on Sept 3 in Beijing.

China is willing to strengthen communication, enhance trust, eliminate interference, and deepen cooperation with Canada to bring bilateral relations forward on a steady and sound track in solid strides under the new circumstances, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Beijing on the day.

Referring to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to China, the first by a Canadian prime minister in eight years, Wang said the trip marks a milestone in bilateral ties and signals a turning point in the relationship.

The leaders of the two countries will hold meetings and talks, which are expected to open up new prospects for bilateral relations, said Wang.

The world today is undergoing profound and complex changes, and the impact of China-Canada relations transcends the bilateral scope, Wang noted.

Wang said that China and Canada have different social systems, stemming from different historical and cultural heritage, and based on the choices of their respective people.

He urged both sides to view each other in a rational and amicable manner with an inclusive mindset, handle issues on the basis of mutual respect, focus on the agenda of cooperation, and send positive messages so as to foster optimism, inject greater confidence into the development of bilateral relations, and jointly build a new type of strategic partnership between China and Canada.

Anand said the new Canadian government attaches great importance to relations with China. She also added that Prime Minister Carney looks forward to engaging in in-depth exchanges with Chinese leaders during the visit to set the course for the development of bilateral relations, resume dialogue in various fields, pursue more mutually beneficial outcomes, enhance coordination and cooperation in multilateral affairs, and further advance the strategic partnership between the two countries.
